Kyrenia Market. Wednesday weekly.
Kyrenia municipal open air market. Here you will find fantastic value on a vast range of goods, especially fruit, vegetables, cheeses, yoghurts, oils and vinegars (often brought in from the country by farming families), fish, footwear, clothing and all sorts of odds and ends. (Back to top)

Famagusta Market. Friday weekly.
Here you can buy about everything you might need; clothing, household items, flowers, fish and fresh fruit and vegetables. You can also buy freshly pressed olive oil there, mostly made by the vendor itself (and it does come very often in re-used bottles of J&B, Bells or Teachers!). (Back to top)

Guzelyurt Market. Saturday weekly.
Everything from clothes, shoes, nuts, sweets, olive oil, honey, home made cheese as well as fruit and vegetables are sold. Produce is fresh, and local people are encouraged to sell the excess from their own gardens. The market opens early, and continues till about 1pm. It is situated on the main street opposite the museum and church. (Back to top)

Friends Coffee Morning. 1st, 2nd 3rd and Last Wednesdays.
11am. Friends of those in Need coffee morning. The first 3 Wednesdays of the month will be at Ginko Restaurant, Namik Kemal Square, Famagusta and is a social meeting. On the Last Wednesday, it will be a fund-raising meeting at the Terrace Beach bar, Bogaz. (Back to top)

Sidestreets at Kyrenia, Last Sunday Monthly.
12 Midday, Onar Village, Kyrenia. Sidestreets present  “Voluptuous Bristle”: A Lecture punctuated with poetry by poet and professor Ravi Shankar. Celebrated poet, critic, editor and Professor Ravi Shankar, visiting faculty member at EMU for Spring 2010, will read from some of his work, including transliterations from the Sanskrit, collaborations with other poets, erasures, mash ups and sestinas, traversing a wide range of poetic possibility. As the founding editor of one of the oldest electronic journals of literature, Drunken Boat, he will discuss the potentialities that exist for electronic literature, and as the editor of a Norton anthology that gathered together 450 poets from 61 countries writing in over 40 different languages, he will discuss the trajectories and shapes of non-Western poetries, including the role translation plays in contemporary discourse. He will discuss how that most ancient of genres, poetry, situates itself in the mediated and constantly shifting global landscape and will punctuate his comments with performances of new poems, some of which will be debuted for the first time at Sidestreets. Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally, 25th to 28th May.
Around 80 yachts will be transiting Kyrenia this week. They will be arriving at Girne New Harbour from Alanya during 25th May. They will be in port on the 26th and 27th May, departing for Mersin on the 28th May. For more information, look here. (Back to top)

Ozankoy Carob Festival, 28th to 30th May.
Evening events. The opening will start with a procession in front of the Osman Turkay Nursery School at 6.30pm. There will be dance shows, concerts, carob sapling planting and other assorted events. Pekmez will be produced on the first day of the festival, and there will be stalls selling handicrafts, food, and beverages, and assorted jewellery peculiar to Cyprus. The festival will end with the concert of one of Turkey’s favourite music groups, Gece Yolculari. As parking is limited in the village, there will be a shuttle bus from Lemar at Karakum every day at 5pm. (Back to Top)

Piano Concert, Friday 28th May.
8.30pm. Bellapais Abbey. Russian concert pianist, Rauf Kasimov, has arranged a piano recital for 7 pupils, aged 9-11 who will be playing play a selection of classical music. Rauf will play with them at the end of the evening. Tickets cost 15TL, available on the door. The concert is in aid of the TRNC Special Education Foundation. (Back to Top)

Sidestreets Exhibition 28th May to 7th June
