Kyrenia municipal open air market. Here you will find fantastic
value on a vast range of goods, especially fruit, vegetables,
cheeses, yoghurts, oils and vinegars (often brought in from the
country by farming families), fish, footwear, clothing and all sorts

Famagusta Market. Friday weekly.
Here you can buy about everything you might need; clothing,
household items, flowers, fish and fresh fruit and vegetables. You
can also buy freshly pressed olive oil there, mostly made by the
vendor itself (and it does come very often in re-used bottles of

Guzelyurt Market. Saturday weekly.
Everything from clothes, shoes, nuts, sweets, olive oil,
honey, home made cheese as well as fruit and vegetables are sold.
Produce is fresh, and local people are encouraged to sell the excess
from their own gardens. The market opens early, and continues till
about 1pm. It is situated on the main street opposite the museum and

Eco-Tourism Association, the market has handicrafts, traditional

Turtle Nesting, June to August.
North Cyprus is one of the few turtle nesting areas in the
Mediterranean. Every year student volunteers study these animals,
and you can join them on one of their overnight expeditions. Numbers
are limited, so it is essential that you pre-book at their
headquarters, “The Goatshed” at Alagadi. For more

St Barnabas'
Saints Day, Wednesday 11th June Annually.
St Barnabas is the Patron Saint of Cyprus, and is a very important
person in the history of Christianity. Until 1974, this day was one
of celebrations centred on
St Barnabas Monastery, near Famagusta. In 2005, these
celebrations were reinstated, and are now an annual occurrence.

ATA BBQ, Sunday

5.30pm, Görneç. (We will meet at the turnoff to Serdarli on
the Lefkosa to Gecitkale road and proceed to the village in convoy).
Due to the success of the olive event in Görneç last October Metin
Ibrahimer has arranged a BBQ event with a similar format. He is
putting together a few recipes that are simple to reproduce and are
not what we may have got to expect of BBQ´s. He hopes to display the
variety of ingredients available to us that can change the
misconception that a BBQ should be burgers sausages or cubes of meat
on a skewer (not to say that these can be a delight too). The
purpose of this event is to get everyone involved and have a fun
day. Each dish will be demonstrated and prepared by himself and
volunteers. The menu is as follows:-
Chicken Peanut Satay. Marinated chicken with a
distinct oriental peanut sauce
Marinated Calves Liver. Marinated in wild sage,
garlic, bay leaves and more
Mediterranean Beef Patty. Ground beef, spices and ‘kaşar’
cheese
Lamb Chops. Marinated in rosemary, mint and ‘bulb
Juice’
Accompaniments. Bread, Pilav with fresh herbs,
orange and red onion Salad & Much More
Finish With. Rum Flamed Caribbean Banana with cane

Piano Concert,

8.30pm. Bellapais Abbey. Russian concert pianist, Rauf Kasimov, has
arranged a piano recital for 7 pupils, aged 9-11 who will be playing
play a selection of classical music. The soloist will be Gorsev Tepe,
the international prize winning 10 year old. Rauf will play with

Turksoy Opera Days
Festival, 11th and 12th June.
8.30pm, Bellapais Abbey. The Mersin State Opera nad Ballet Orchestra, and soloists from Turkish
speaking countries are participating. In this event, which was held
to great acclaim at the Girne Ampheatre last September, there will
be a different performance each night.

Bingo, Wednesday Afternoons.
A bingo fundraiser for the charity takes place every Wednesday
afternoon at central Kyrenia's Watermill Hotel. Bingo books cost
each player YTL25 at the sessions, with 10% being donated to the
Cancer Charity. All of the remainder goes into the prize fund. (Back
